At the top of the tourist attractions in Sighișoara is the Citadel Square (Piața Cetății), a magical place that has been at the heart of the community for centuries and carries with it half a millennium of significant events for the Transylvanian region.
Once a place where all major activities of the medieval citadel took place—from court trials to trade—today its historical charm has turned it into an ideal attraction for tourists.
Among the most prominent tourist attractions in Sighișoara is the Clock Tower (Turnul cu Ceas), which majestically overlooks the Upper and Lower Town Squares.
Standing over 64 meters tall and with a remarkable history as the headquarters of the Town Council, it is the only tower in the Citadel that was not owned by any guild, being managed instead by the local authorities.
A unique and special place in Sighișoara is the Scholar’s Stairs (Scara Școlarilor), built to connect the lower part of the city with the upper area, where the Sighișoara Citadel and other important buildings are located. Originally constructed in 1642 with 300 steps, today visitors can climb just 176 steps to enjoy a unique view of Sighișoara.
