The Black Church (Biserica Neagră) is one of the most representative Gothic architectural monuments in Romania, with a length of over 89 meters.
It is considered the second largest church in Romania, after the National Cathedral (Catedrala Mântuirii Neamului), and the largest Gothic construction in Southeastern Europe.
Situated on Straja Hill, this fortress is a symbol of the city of Brașov.
The construction, with its quadrilateral shape and Italian-style bastions at the corners supporting the defensive towers above, had only one access point via a drawbridge. The fortress served as a refuge for the people of Brașov fleeing from the Habsburgs.
